This is Hootie! He is a 4 year old Schnauzer mix who loves to chase birds, run wild, and get his belly rubbed! Hootie became a member of the Pilson Family after they caught a glimpse of him (and those big beautiful eyes!) during one of their visits to PetsMart. Hootie and his sister, Charley, have been coming to Village since they were babies and love their visits here to see all their friends they've made over the years!
Last September, Hootie was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease. Intervertebral Disc Disease is a condition where the cushioning discs between the vertebrae of the spinal column either bulge or burst (herniate) into the spinal cord space. These discs then press on the nerves running through the spinal cord causing pain, nerve damage, and even paralysis. In Hootie's case, this unfortunately caused paralysis.
Thankfully, after back surgery, laser therapy, various therapies with Dr. Alford, and lots of TLC from his family, Hootie has made a fantastic recovery and IS walking again!
When asked why he is so special, his family says he is one of a kind! He has many different nicknames and has never met a stranger. Even during his surgery and recovery, he was still the fun loving pup they couldn't live without!
